Site policy

This page states plainly what The Air Horse Ledger is, so that nobody has to infer it from the tone of the other pages. It is the one place on the site where the desk talks about itself; the other pages talk about horses, boxes and paper.

What is this site, and what is it not?

This site is not a carrier and has no link with the former operator of this domain. It does not fly horses, book flights, broker charters, arrange quarantine, issue documents or represent any shipper, airline or agent. It is a documentary notebook, written by a small editorial desk, about a procedure that is poorly documented in public and easy to get wrong. Anyone who needs a horse moved needs a carrier and a veterinarian, not this site.

The domain name was acquired after it lapsed. The business that previously used it is a separate matter entirely, and nothing published here continues, represents or refers to it. Historical pages that contained the names of private individuals and their horses have not been restored, in any form, and will not be. The Danish mirror the historical site carried under its own address has not been rebuilt either: this ledger publishes in one language, English, because the desk cannot guarantee a Danish text to the standard a native reader is entitled to, and the old Danish addresses point to the English page they translated.

How the pages are written

Every page answers a question, in order, with a real answer under each heading. Where a fact is regulatory, operational or numerical, it is taken from a primary source, quoted where the wording matters, linked, and dated with the day it was read. Where a source is behind a paywall, as most of the IATA Live Animals Regulations is, the ledger names the section and says what it has not read rather than paraphrasing it from memory.

Where no reliable figure exists, none is given. Several pages here say so explicitly, including the one on hold temperature. A confident number without a source is worse than an admitted gap, because a reader may act on it. Where a page reasons rather than cites, it says that it is reasoning.

Illustrations

The photographs on this site are produced images. They illustrate a described scene; they are not documentary evidence of a specific aircraft, container, facility, flight or person, and they should never be read as certifying that a particular piece of equipment is compliant. Captions describe what is visible and nothing more. No image on this site shows a real horse, a real shipment or a real place, and none is presented as if it did.

Who writes it?

The ledger is signed collectively by The Air Horse Ledger desk. There is no invented author, no fabricated biography and no claim of personal experience in the hold of a freighter. The subject is documented from published sources, which is a real and honest basis for a notebook, and it is stated rather than dressed up. The desk has no commercial relationship with any carrier, agent, facility or authority named on these pages, and names them only because they publish the rules.

Corrections

Rules change, agencies revise their pages and this ledger will fall out of date in places. If something here is wrong, out of date or misread, write to contact@airhorse.dk with the page and, if possible, the source. Corrections are made to the page itself. Where a correction changes the substance of what was said, the change is stated on the page rather than made silently, with the date of the change next to the date the source was read.

Money

Nothing on this site is for sale and no commission is taken on anything described here. The reasoning behind that, and the rules that would apply if it ever changed, are set out in the business policy. The pages of the ledger link out only to the primary sources they read, and none of those links is placed at anyone's request.
